Overview

Type Spector is a Chrome extension that inspects and visualizes typography on webpages using color-coded overlays and an editable hover tooltip. We are fully committed to your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect (none) and how the extension works.

Data Collection

Type Spector does not collect, transmit, store on servers, or share any personal data whatsoever. The extension has no backend, no analytics, no tracking, and makes zero network requests to external servers.

What the extension reads

When activated by the user, Type Spector reads computed CSS font properties (font-size, line-height, font-weight, font-family, letter-spacing) from elements on the currently active tab. This data is used only to display visual overlays and the hover tooltip on your screen. It is never stored, logged, or sent anywhere.

Local Storage Only

The only data stored is your personal preferences, saved locally in your own browser using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.localAPI. This includes:

• Filter settings (Font Size, Line Height, Font Weight, Font Family, Letter Spacing toggles)
• Hover mode preference (on or off)
• Ignored CSS selectors
• Dark or light mode preference

This data never leaves your device and is only used to remember your settings between sessions.
